Deep Sea Sampling


German industry and academia are involved through the “Deep Sea Sampling” project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affais and Energy

Research Project:

Minimally invasive deep-sea mining, with the aim of meeting future raw material needs and increasing the raw material independence of Germany and the European Union—with a particular focus on the extraction of massive sulfides.


Project Timeline:

2021–2024: Deep Sea Sampling 1 (Concept phase)

2025–2028: Deep Sea Sampling 2 (Development)

2029–2032: Deep Sea Sampling 3 (Pilot Mining)
